GlossaRY

EUDR: The European Regulation against Deforestation and Forest Degradation aims to forbid the placing on the market or export from the European market of products that have contributed to deforestation or forest degradation.

Deforestation: designates the conversion of forests to agricultural use, whereas forest degradation is measured on the basis of various criteria relating to structural changes in forest cover.

Products concerned and mentioned in annex 1 of EUDR: cattle, wood, cocoa, soya, palm oil, coffee, rubber and certain of their derivative products such as leather, chocolate, tyres or furniture.

Due diligence:  this includes three main stages: collecting information, assessing the risk of illegal harvesting, and implementing risk mitigation measures.

Due Diligence Statement: Before any product is placed on the market, operators and distributors will have to fill in a statement in the TRACES information system, which in turn will centralize all these declarations. Operators will have to review their due diligence system at least on an annual basis.

TRACES: The European Commission’s online platform for the sanitary & phytosanitary certification of animal and plant imports. In practice, the platform is accessible in all EU languages, free of charge, 24/7 with an internet connection and an EU Login account.

Actor of the Industry Week in France

Initiated by the Ministry of the Economy and Finance via the General Directorate of Companies (DGE), the “Industry Week” has been mobilising since 2011, the various industrial and institutional players to promote industry and its players by offering educational events and discovery of professions.

Industry Week is an opportunity to :

  • reinforce the attractiveness of industry and its professions;
  • raise young people’s awareness of industrial jobs and in particular of the industry of the future;
  • support the mix of professions and the place of women in industry;
  • inform the general public about the recruitment needs of industry;

This year, the THEBAULT Group is taking part in this major event at its production sites by opening the doors of its factories to pupils and students from schools in the villages where it is based. Thus, 90 primary and secondary school pupils will come throughout the week to discover the peeling of maritime pine or poplar and the manufacture of plywood panels.

In all, nearly 3,500 events are listed this year on the Industry Week website, including 77 in the wood industry.

LOGIFOR was created following the desire of Jean-Charles THEBAULT and Jean-Pascal ARCHIMBAUD to secure part of their supplies of maritime pine for their industrial wood processing activities. The meeting with Michel GRAVOUIL allowed its creation on the site of Bussac-Forêt (17).

LOGIFOR is in charge of part of the maritime pine purchases for the peeling sites of Solférino (40) and Sauzé-Vaussais (79). It specialises in the exploitation of maritime pine plots. It handles either standing timber and subcontracts forestry work such as thinning or final cutting, or timber already cut on the roadside.

The THEBAULT Group partners with BaityKool in Dubai, United Arab Emirates

PODIUM in competitions: 1st prize “SUSTAINABILITY” and 3rd prize “ENGINEERING & CONSTRUCTION

Carried in the containers and the project of the only French team competing in the Solar Décathlon architecture competition, THEBAULT Group plywood will be present in the house of the future of the BaityKool project.  A negative energy consumption house in Dubai, the house presented in this architecture and engineering competition must solve the difficult equation of an indoor temperature of 21 to 25°C in an outdoor environment of almost 50°C during the day and 30°C at night.

AN INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION

Created at the initiative of the US Department of Energy in 2002, the Solar Decathlon is a biennial international architecture, design, urban planning and engineering competition {{whose aim is to develop innovation and research in the field of renewable energies, in particular passive housing, bioclimatic and solar energy.

The 2018 edition of the Solar Decathlon, to be held in Dubai from 14 to 29 November, aims to design sustainable solar homes in the Middle East and to contribute to the dissemination of knowledge in order to raise public awareness and demonstrate that passive houses can be affordable, attractive andconfortables.

THE BAITYKOOL PROJECT

As a partner in this exceptional project, the THEBAULT Group is contributing and supporting the BaityKool team by supplying plywood in the three species of Maritime Pine, Poplar and Okoumé.

MORE THAN A HOME, A CONCEPT

BaityKool’s bioclimatic}} architecture respects the climate and local traditions. At night, the removable roof and open windows allow you to take advantage of the prevailing winds and ventilate, or even cool if conditions permit, the interior of the building. The skin of the BaityKool building is a contemporary fibre concrete moucharabieh that incorporates solar panels to maximize energy production from sunrise to sunset. The walls are composed of multi-layer walls to optimize the thermal efficiency of the envelope (floor, wall and roof). • Protected from the sun by a pergola, the plant core in the centre of the building has a self-contained, continuous and closed aquaponics* system, which enables fish to be reared and 300 kg of fruit and vegetables to be produced per year in vertical culture, equivalent to the annual consumption of a family of 4 people. • Water recycling is also ensured in the building. A lombrifilter allows the ecological filtration of grey and black water, associated with a Solar Bio Purification system that transforms the residues of undissolved matter into biomass thanks to UV light, then reused as fertilizer for watering plants. *aquaponia: a system that unites plant cultivation and fish farming.

BAITYKOOL PARTNER

Retained for their aesthetic and technical quality, the THEBAULT Group’s plywoods support the BaityKool project, with the supply of panels in the three species for the manufacture of the structures and the finishing of the interior walls.
