• Wood layers

Plywood is made from wood layers obtained by rotary cutting logs. These layers, also known under the name of plies or veneers are then bonded together at right angle of their woodgrain. The lay –up is always carried in an odd number of plies in order to guarantee maximum stability.

This perpendicular adjacent construction of wood veneers allows to easily distinguish plywood from any other wood-based panels. The edges are made from separate superposed woody lines very much specific and instantly recognisable. This construction gives the product superior technical properties including strong impact resistance, excellent behaviour to humidity and weather stress, in accordance with the selected glue line.

• Wood, a renewable resource

The use of wood from sustainable managed forests represents an active contribution to the preservation of the planet’s resources.   Enhancing the market value of woods from sustainably managed forests gives local authorities an incentive to preserve their forestry resources. In Europe, the surface area covered by forests is constantly growing, expanding by an average of 510,000 hectares per year. Only 64% of this annual growth is felled for commercial purposes, leaving a significant margin of expansion as forest coverage in Europe expands more rapidly than wood consumption.

International PEFC™ and FSC® certifications as well as the forestry programme implemented by the Gabonese authorities guarantee that logs have been sourced from sustainably managed forests.

• Plywood, an environmentally friendly material

Wood, and its derivative the plywood panel, sequesters carbon dioxide (CO2), and the production of plywood panels requires an extremely low energy input in comparison to the energy needed to manufacture other construction products made from steel, aluminium, mineral or synthetic raw materials.

It’s an established fact:

• Consuming wood is a good thing for our forests.
• Young, growing trees absorb more CO2 than their elder, mature counterparts.
• A sustainable forest management helps to enhance the capacity in CO²sequestration
• The stored CO² remain in in the wood itself product or its derived further processed product throughout its life cycle.

The wood processed in the THEBAULT Group’s sites comes from the lower part of the shaft of the tree cut into logs, the lumber. Of better quality, it is particularly suitable for noble uses such as peeling for the manufacture of TeboPin plywood.
